What to tell the roofer
- Where you see the problem, inside and out, from the ground
- When it happens: heavy rain, wind-driven rain or snowmelt
- The roof's approximate age, and any previous repairs in that area
- Whether it's connected with an insurance claim
Stay off the roof
Don't climb up to look. Photos from the ground or through an upstairs window are plenty to start with, and the roofer will inspect it properly.

Will new shingles match my roof?
Not always exactly. Shingles fade and styles get discontinued, so a patch can look slightly different. Ask the roofer how close a match they can get before the work is done.
